With increasing dental problems nowadays it’s very important to maintain oral hygiene, which starts with proper brushing. It’s essential to inculcate proper brushing habits in children right from young age to benefit long term oral health . Many kids don’t like brushing their teeth, and it becomes battle for parents every morning and night to make them brush. It’s essential to guide children below age 8-9 years of age for proper and effective brushing.
 

Parents can teach there children how to brush with these key steps

 

* Choose a small size, soft bristled children toothbrush. Smear a pea size non low fluoride toothpaste on brush. Children below 2 years of age shouldn’t be given toothpaste at all.

 
* Angle the bristles of the toothbrush towards the gum. Move the brush in gentle circles to clean the outer sides of the teeth and gums of both upper and lower teeth. Using same motion brush inside surface of teeth.

 
* Brush the chewing surfaces of the teeth specially back teeth as they may collect food particles.

 
* With tip of your toothbrush clean front teeth vertically. Instruct your child to spit out the toothpaste and not to take in.

 
* Dont forget to clean tongue, because oral hygiene is incomplete without tongue cleaning.

 
Brush your child’s teeth twice a day – in the morning and just before bed. Spend 2 minutes brushing, Replace the toothbrush every 3 or 4 months, or sooner if it shows signs of wear. Never share a toothbrush with others. With this simple tips and technique you can help yourself and your child to maintain hygiene.
