We all do things from time to time that we know we shouldn’t. Unhealthy habits are hard to break. But sometimes knowing what harm your habit is causing may help you to stop them. Teeth are important part of your body as they help in first step of food digestion apart from esthetics. Let’s discuss about the things which can cause damage to your pearly whites.

1. Using your tooth as a tool

We tend to use our teeth as tool when we see “tear here” written on a pack, instead of using a scissor we make our tooth cutting device, in fact people use their teeth as a bottle opener which is more worse. Please remember teeth are not bottle openers, package rippers, string cutters or any of the number of other crazy tools they get used for. May be at that time it is more convenient to you than for searching a pair of scissors or opener, but trust us, it’s better than fractured or chipped tooth and then rushing to dentist.

2. Chew on hard object

Some people have a habit of holding objects — such as pens, pencils when concentrating on difficult task. But they might not realize how much pressure they’re placing on their teeth. People also bite on hard frozen ice, thinking how ice can harm their teeth. Though enamel is hardest substance in our body, but munching on hard, frozen cubes can chip or even crack your teeth.
Similarly never try to bite hard nuts or nutshells to avoid damage.

3. Binge eating

With changing lifestyle people tend to eat in front of TV, cause of this you cannot properly concentrate on what you are eating and you tend to eat slowly and more. Sometimes even when you are not hungry you just munch on snacks, leaving food bits in your teeth for hours longer. The starchy food get stuck on your food, playing host for bacteria and damaging it leading to decay. Binge eating can lead to a whole host of problems, including eating disorders, obesity, and poor dental health.

4. Improper brushing

Now you will feel this is the part I do daily, but question is are you doing it correct? It’s very important to brush your teeth correctly to avoid decay, and wearing of tooth leading to sensitivity and cavities. If you brush too hard you are doing more harm than good to your teeth. Your tooth brush bristles should always be soft, you shouldn’t use a brush when it’s flared (wear off) or more than 3 months, whichever is earlier. It’s better to learn proper tooth brushing techniques from your dentist, it can save you from lots of trouble latter.

Oral cancer is commonest form of cancer in India, some records states over 5 people die from oral cancer every hour in India, shocking?
